The International Centre for Exploration and Education (ICEE) is a leading provider of international experiences for university students from around the globe. Our authentic, life-changing, small-group international experiences are available to American and students from around the globe. Our focus is experiential learning and we provide our students with once-in-a-lifetime learning opportunities and experiences in order to enhance their knowledge of the world and themselves.
For nearly a decade, ICEE has been providing college and university students with amazing international experiences in dynamic, creative ways that college-based study abroad offices are unable to duplicate. These opportunities and experiences not only ensure that ICEE students gain the academic knowledge and intercultural skills they will need to prepare them for their future careers in a globalized world, but also show them that the journey to that knowledge can be fun and rewarding in and of itself!
ICEE is committed to the following:
- To use the power of authentic cultural immersion for the benefit of our students.
- To use an experiential rather than purely theoretical educational model to educate our students.
- To foster a sense of community within every ICEE group - both among students, with students and their Academic Director, with students and our local partners, and with students and the people they meet.
- To foster student growth by pushing student comfort zones.
- To empower every student to travel safely, confidently, and independently anywhere in the world after their ICEE tour - either independently or on another ICEE tour.
- To encourage the growth of every ICEE student so that they return home a changed and more globally-aware individual and good “global citizen.”
- To show students that part of the beauty of traveling is all the unique and interesting interactions that happen during the journey. We believe that some of the most memorable moments happen when one least expects them and it is important for students to realize that what is important is the journey itself, not just the final destination.
Historically, travel was about expanding ones understanding of the world - it was an encounter with wonder, a veritable feast for the mind and the senses. At ICEE, we are passionate about discovery, we are moved by the marvels the world provides travelers, and we always want to know what is around the next corner. This spirit of adventure is clearly evident in all of our trips. We aren’t content to merely scratch the surface during our tours: we prefer to actually explore our destinations; to get immersed in the places visited; and to get to know the locals - their culture, their cuisine, and their everyday lives. Our programs are carefully crafted to draw out the authenticity of every destination we visit and to celebrate that which makes it unique.
The ICEE Team
There are some jobs out there that we all dream of having someday. One of these “dream jobs” is that of an ICEE Academic Director. These individuals are experienced world travelers and participate in extensive annual training. ICEE’s Academic Directors will share their insights and experience with you and quietly inspire you with their passion for the work they do and the places you'll explore. It takes a pretty special someone to dedicate their working life to ensuring complete strangers get the most out of their international experiences – but no-one ever said our leaders weren’t special.
Your Academic Director is your go-to point of contact, your guide, your professor, and your source for any travel-related questions. He or she will...
- Point you toward the hidden places most non-locals never see.
- Make sure you get you from A to B, including handling all transportation details and tickets.
- Tell you about the best restaurants, cafes, and bars.
- Share local anecdotes and stories.
- Handle all hotel arrangements and check-ins, restaurant bookings, and technical details.
- Help you organize any extra activities.
- Suggest the best ways to fill your free time.
- Introduce you to friendly locals you would otherwise never get to meet.
Our local partners are the greatest. We’ve known from the start that the best individuals to show you the heart of a destination are, funnily enough, the ones that live there. These are our partners: guides and friendly locals who know their countries back to front, from every backstreet bar to every hidden gallery. They’re what makes ICEE special.
Heading up each program is a team of talented, dynamic trip leaders who have extensive experience in the field. Here are a few of our outstanding trip leaders who may accompany you on your ICEE study tour:
